About Sicilian Boobless Mama
I’m a mama with no melons and plenty of sauce. Sicilian roots, no boobs, all heart. My story begins long before my own mastectomy, back in my mother’s kitchen in Balestrate, Sicily, where everything started with olive oil, laughter, and love.
My mama came to America decades ago, bringing with her the flavors and memories of her childhood. Like most Sicilian women, she never wrote down a single recipe. Every dish came from memory, from instinct, and from love. When she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a single mastectomy, I watched her handle it with strength and grace. Years later, when Alzheimer’s began to take her memories, I knew it was time to preserve her recipes before they were gone. Not just for me, but for everyone who cooks with heart.
A Legacy Served With Love
I originally published a cookbook of her recipes on Amazon, but decided to unpublish it so I could share them here, for free, in the way she would have wanted. Around the table, through stories and laughter. Now, I’m bringing those recipes to life again through YouTube videos and interviews with local businesses, paying it forward one dish at a time.
Cooking Without Fear
In January, I had my own double prophylactic mastectomy. The results were that one boob had cysts that we always knew about and the other boob had LCIS (Lobular carcinoma in situ), which the doctor told me is a precursor to breast cancer. By removing both boobs, I had mitigated getting breast cancer. 🩷
I chose no reconstruction and have no regrets. I’m reclaiming my body, my joy, and my confidence, right here in the kitchen, my community, and through my travels around the world. This space is about food, family, resilience, and a life lived braless but full of flavor.
Join me on this journey of healing, cooking, and celebrating every messy, beautiful, and saucy part of being human.
